Mountain Ash Youth recently held their end of season presentation night to celebrate the 2025/26 season, which was the 70th season of Youth rugby at Mountain Ash RFC.
The Mount team was coached by Gavin Roberts and Ryan Savage, with Matthew Barnard as Team Manager, and got better as the season progressed, finishing with a playing record of played 26, won 12, drawn 2, and lost 12. This was very encouraging as the majority of the squad were in their first year of Youth rugby. The potential is there for a better season next year, with the squad being strengthened by an input of this season’s Under 16 players.
No.8 Iestyn Davies crowned a fine season for himself by being voted Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year. Outside half Callum Iwanski, who made his 1st XV debut at the end of the season, was chosen as the Back of the Season and shows great potential. Jack Cartwright was the Forward of the Season and carries on a long family tradition of running out in the black and amber jersey of the Old Firm, and hooker Carion Savage also played for Cardiff Rugby Under 18s.
The Young Firm start training on Thursday 9 July. All players are welcome. Get in the action, join the Young Firm!
